Davin

Davin, is my super duper awesomely sweet 4 year old.  Man, we love this kid so much.  Davin is also delayed.  We didn't really notice it until he hit the 2 year mark.  I mean, we noticed that he didn't sit up, or crawl, or walk as quickly as the other kids, but we assumed that it was because he just wanted to take his time, and that that big kids were doing things for him, so he didn't have to.  When he was two though, we started to notice that he wasn't really talking that much.  Now Corben also had difficulty talking, and so we sort of just let it go, thinking he'd be like Corben and just bloom a bit later.  In fact, on this blog when he turned two, I mentioned there that I won't worry about his speech, because he's probably just a later bloomer.  Well, he's 4 now, and along with major speech issues, he also has cognitive, language, and social development delays.  We have spent the last 4 months working with the elementary school getting him tested, evaluated, and screened to see if he qualifies for their PSCD preschool. (Pre-School Child Development).  He scored pretty low in speech, and then below average in those other areas.  So after a few weeks of continuous meetings we now have another child entering school this year.  Davin will be going, 4 days a week, to the special preschool.  He will even be bused there!  Hopefully with some one on one with the speech therapist, and the attention he'll get with the preschool teacher we'll see some progress.  Since he's a late birthday, he wont' start Kindergarten until he's almost six, which gives him the rest of this school year, and another full school year of personalized help to really set him up to succeed.  We're so excited for this little guy and his new adventures!  Today we even went and bought his first backpack.
