GRRRRRRRR

When we moved here from Alaska, we were frustrated. You see, there's so much you have to do, when you move in the military. One of the many things is getting the movers to your house to pack your stuff. Because we were moving overseas, we had to schedule two moves. The first was our Unaccompanied Baggage, which is a bunch of stuff they fly ahead, that is waiting for you at your destination. Things like dishes, towels, bedding etc. The other is your household goods, which end up in crates on a ship, and took two months to get here. Anyway, when we were there, everything went through the Anchorage offices, even though we were at Eielson. So we scheduled everything, and had times that the movers were supposed to show up. Our first, the UB, was supposed to get packed up around noon, so when two o'clock rolled around, we called, and discovered that no one was given the job to come pack us up. We were upset. Luckily, a crew finished early, and came over an hour or so later, packed us up, and went on their way. We sighed a sigh of relief, and waited the few days for the big packing day to happen. That day came, and the movers were supposed to be there first thing in the morning....... um..... by noon, we got nervous, called, and yet AGAIN, no one scheduled our move..... WHAT? Okay, we were really mad by then, but by pure chance, the SAME crew that came before, just happened to be free, came out, packed us up, and all was right (well, except for the lingering B.O. that one of the movers had that was so bad, I assume he was the basis of the Seinfeld episode about B.O.)

So skip ahead four years, we get to the TMO office (Travel Management Office) and schedule our move. I jokingly ask if they'll show up, and do a quick explanation. The girl at the desk wasn't amused, oh well, whatever. So we scheduled our move so that we could have the cleaners come on Thursday, and our final housing could be done on Friday. Well, we found out housing couldn't do it Friday, they had to come on Thursday, so we had to re-schedule our packers. Tim went in the VERY NEXT DAY and found out to change our move times, he had to fill out a paper, and have his commander sign it. He did, it was signed, it was taken back in and our new dates were UB on Friday, packers Monday and Tuesday. Cleaners Wednesday, Housing Thursday, Friday relax a bit, fly out Saturday. So when the moving company came today to inspect what they had to pack, we were told that they were never informed of the change...... uh...... okay....... It seems that TMO never made the date change. In fact, they told Tim when he called to complain, that they'd never received any paper. Tim offered to show up with his commander to verify it was done....I think that they got the point, that they screwed up. Luckily the movers were positive that they could have us packed and on the truck in one day, so our schedule still works, but it's not very cool that they didn't process the paperwork! So after a morning with some major frustration because it seems that the people were too busy picking their noses, than doing their job....we're calmed down again. In the grand scheme of things, it could have been worse, everything should still work out. Now if only we could sell our yellow van...... :)

Just think, at least you aren't in the Winkles shoes, they just found out that they are leaving and possibly the same week that you guys are. They have 3 cars and tons of other stuff to sell. -- TMO is very frustrating, That's why with anything mil. wise I ask for a copy of every paper, you just never know. Good luck!!!
